I made annual Christmas advent calendars for the past three years now. First there was the envelope garland, then the gift box station, and after that came the gift bag stick tree. The lead up to Christmas this year has been extra busy and I thought I may have to give it a miss this year. But wait! I had an idea! Something quick and easy…and BAM! Behold the Cupcake Case Advent Calendar Garland. Cost me under $4 and under 10 minutes to make.
Materials
Single hole punch
25 pack of Pretty Cupcake cases (I found the star ones for a few dollars at a discount shop)
Twine, string or ribbon
Marker
Instructions
All pretty self explanatory. Hole punch each side of every cupcake case and thread on to a string. With a marker, write the numbers on. This is a fun activity for kids to make, even without making it an advent calendar.
Hang
I filled each cupcake case AFTER hanging so there was no risk of everything falling out. I used 2 small command hooks on ether side of the window and hung the string across. Each day, taking turns, the kids will be able to climb up and tip out their respective number.
Fillers
I didn’t want to do many chocolates this year so I did a combination of rubbers, Lego figures, mini decorations for the tree, stickers and just one small packet of nerds each.
Christmas Story
Every year, I read sections of the Christmas story to the children each night. There’s a PDF download here if you’re interested.
