Microsoft Office 2010 Features: Giveaway

I’m writing a review of Microsoft Office 2010 from my own experiences.  Below are four of my favourite features.

1. SmartArt: I love you SmartArt!

SmartArt is an automatic graphic program.  In less than 5 minutes, I was able to create four different relationship charts in relation to my post on discipline.

I’m a pictorial learner and writer so I love this tool.  Due to the ease of changing graphics, I can test different graphics and then choose which illustration best visually represents the message I wish to convey. Hmmm, number two or four I think.

2. Text/Font Effects

Microsoft Word’s new word processing features are nothing short of fabulous.  In previous versions, fancy text was only able to be produced through Word Art.  Microsoft Word 2010 allows for design fonts to be inserted directly into the document and, as such, spell check is able to scan those words for errors. 

With a few clicks, I was able to create different font effects, literally in seconds.

3. Draft Saves: Hooray, it’s still there!

I’m a Mum: interruptions are part of my world. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve left the computer without saving my work.  Microsoft Office 2010 features the ability to access unsaved work as well as draft versions of files that have been closed without saving.  Read recover instructions here.

4. Create a Blog Button, Graphic or Picture collage

Publisher is my favourite Microsoft Office application.  I use Publisher to edit pictures, create blog buttons and graphics.  There are many fantastic photo collage programs available; however, I like the flexibility and simplicity of using Publisher, especially with combining text and pictures.  For example for my Theme It and My Style posts, I’m able to place reference numbers over the picture products. Click the image below for a  step by step tutorial of how to create a simple graphic picture on Publisher.

Summary

I’ve been using Microsoft Office 2010 for 2 months now and what impresses me most, is the usability factor.  I don’t waste time thinking about what menu to select, I just do it; it works and everything I need is — right there in front of me.

    Definitely the Font Effects. I love to add a bit of colour and style to otherwise boring documents and this feature will make it so much easier and fun.

    I just love the templates that Microsoft provide with their solutions. Lots of great things for the kids to play with while also giving you great things for your own use.

    I love that Office 2010 now has built-in photo editing features, which make it easier to import snapshots from the Web, edit them, and add visual effects to Word documents. What a huge time-saver!!!!

    Upgrading the old… making life easier with the new!!! Love the concept!! Microsoft Office 2010 looks fantastic with its powerful number-crunching, and easier presentation-making, email-managing, document-creating features! What a way to get ahead!

    The ‘Text Effects’ feature looks amazing! This version really seems to be about getting creative and using office for more than just typing letters and documents.

    I love designing and making cards and gift vouchers for my family and friends as presents. It would also come in handy for creating scrapbooks of cherished family photos or invites to special events.

    Can’t wait to try it out!

    being able to set out a great discipline plan would be fantastic and also for all my daughter’s creative work now she has started Kinder. would love to win to also be able to share the new ideas with my friends too.

    I think all the new features sound fantastic and very helpful! I spend a lot of time creating newsletters and flyers for church and resources/worksheets/posters for our Kingdom Kids program and I think a lot of these new features would make these tasks a lot simpler, quicker and MORE appealing to the eye – especially the Smart Art and new Font Effects! I have also, on more than one occassion, lost completed church newsletters late on a Saturday night after ‘forgetting’ to save and had to redo the lot before Sunday morning so can well relate to the usefulness of automatic save!

    I still have Microsoft 2003, so would really appreciate getting 2010!
    Designing your own fonts would be extremly handy. I used to score the internet for text downloads to add to my folder.
    It would be great to have an all over upgrade of the programme, and Im sure I would use most of the application features!!

    Definately the auto save feature – again, I have 3 littlies and as good as my boys are most of the time, there is still the temptation if the laptop is left in reach. I also love that you can do more fancy fonts without using wordart – i would definatley use that! Thanks for the opportunity to win this, we could never afford to buy our own at themoment 🙂

    Whilst putting out a weekly newsletter for two of the sports clubs my sons are part of, and trying to ensure I still have time for my family, Publisher looks like it would save the day. With newsletters there is always the problem that people just won’t read them, with Publisher the graphics and text will grab their attention long enough to read the content. In addition its ease of use will make it more fun to put together and allow me more time with the family – priceless

    Being a Mum and A primary Teacher there is so much in the Office 2010 package that I could use! From keeping my 8 month Old bub entertained and keeping track of my forgetful husband. The draft and save would definately be a winner though… It seems every time I sit down to get some work done either bub or hubby feel the need to disturb me!!

    My Office trial on our latop has expired and I’m desperatly wanting to use Word to help my almost 5 year old learn to letters. She’s very computer savvy somehow, and I think the ‘excitement’ of using the computer would help the cause. Not to mention that I really really need all the office tools myself 🙂

    I’d love Microsoft Office 2010 as it would mean I could organise all of my recipes in an orderly yet “pretty” way, in the hopes that one day I will be able to publish a recipe book.

    I would love the Draft Saves, I can be a bit absent minded when it come to saving and hutting down my work and there have been many instances when I have deleted work by accident.

    The Draft Saves feature. I’m a mum/teacher/writer and I’ve lost count of how many times my daughter has accidently closed my work before I’ve saved it. MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010 would be fantastic for me as well as my two children.

    Scrapbooking is my “me” time,
    And the new text and font effects,
    Will really spruce up my memory collection,

    gee! so many great features i would have so much fun with all of the graphics and I have none on my computer so any Microsoft office would help me in writing and advertising my books

    I love the idea of being able to play around with the new publisher. Really love the auto save/drafts as I am also leaving the pc and forgetting to save something. Like the new look of word, tabs all look so much easier!

    This giveaway is AWESOME!!! I’d love Microsoft Office 2010! It would be so helpful when planning in my teaching job and also for my upcoming dream job…photography! We can’t afford to buy software like this at the moment so it would be a B.O.N.U.S to win this!!!     Kell, I would love to have a version of Office that’s actually from this century! It’s always frustrating when downloading docs & discovering that so many of the great new features are incompatible with my version 🙁

    ‘m also stuck back in the days of DOS, and could really use the confidence that I’m sure I’d gain from being able to play with MS Office 2010 at home (at my own pace!) It sounds very user-friendly, and I’d love to learn how to manipulate photos & graphics like you do – I am in awe of your skills all the time! I recently got quite a shock when I was browsing through some employment ads and realised just how outdated my computer skills (or lack thereof!) are; as I’m not able to attend a local TAFE or somesuch to get back in the loop, skills in MS Office 2010 that I could gain through trial & error at home would be extremely handy in making me more appealing to future (and current!) employers.

    Many friends have encouraged me to get back into writing, so having a great new tool like this to use might just be the kick in the pants I need!
