Microsoft Office 2010 Features: Giveaway

I’m writing a review of Microsoft Office 2010 from my own experiences.  Below are four of my favourite features.

1. SmartArt: I love you SmartArt!

SmartArt is an automatic graphic program.  In less than 5 minutes, I was able to create four different relationship charts in relation to my post on discipline.

I’m a pictorial learner and writer so I love this tool.  Due to the ease of changing graphics, I can test different graphics and then choose which illustration best visually represents the message I wish to convey. Hmmm, number two or four I think.

2. Text/Font Effects

Microsoft Word’s new word processing features are nothing short of fabulous.  In previous versions, fancy text was only able to be produced through Word Art.  Microsoft Word 2010 allows for design fonts to be inserted directly into the document and, as such, spell check is able to scan those words for errors.

With a few clicks, I was able to create different font effects, literally in seconds.

3. Draft Saves: Hooray, it’s still there!

I’m a Mum: interruptions are part of my world. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve left the computer without saving my work.  Microsoft Office 2010 features the ability to access unsaved work as well as draft versions of files that have been closed without saving.  Read recover instructions here.

4. Create a Blog Button, Graphic or Picture collage

Publisher is my favourite Microsoft Office application.  I use Publisher to edit pictures, create blog buttons and graphics.  There are many fantastic photo collage programs available; however, I like the flexibility and simplicity of using Publisher, especially with combining text and pictures.  For example for my Theme It and My Style posts, I’m able to place reference numbers over the picture products. Click the image below for a  step by step tutorial of how to create a simple graphic picture on Publisher.

Click the icon below to see how I created the I-love-you-my-readers button.

I’ve been using Microsoft Office 2010 for 2 months now and what impresses me most, is the usability factor.  I don’t waste time thinking about what menu to select, I just do it; it works and everything I need is — right there in front of me.

I’ve only highlighted some of many new Microsoft Office 2010 features.  To read more, click here.

Note: I was not paid for this review.

Hi, I would love this as I am doing my graduate Dip in Primary teaching and have seen how much the students love visual presentations, and how they make learning easier for visual learners. I love designing my own materials for lessons so this would be wonderful!

    Hi Kel,

What a fantastic opportunity…couldn’t read without posting.

The feature of Microsoft Office 2010 that appeals to me the most is definitely the draft/auto save function.

As a uni student and mum I rely heavily on this function. Many a time I’ve spent hours of my valuable time working on an essay, been distracted by my kids, and some how ‘lost’ all of my work. I LOVE draft/auto save….it’s my saviour.

    Great review…..Thanks

I’m very interested in the draft save button! I’m a work from home Mum and constantly have my little ones coming into my office. I’ve lost many faxes to drawings of fairies and had lots of settings changed on my computer by my almost 3-year old.

The draft save would be a great little insurance policy to help prevent losing valuable work!

With all my work doing up rosters, newletters and bulletin covers for church and play group, I would love to have Microsoft Office 2010. I hate wasting time trying to get something to look the way you know it should and does in your head, but trying to get the program to actually do it is another story!
So basically I would love to try Smart Art and also a new range of fonts, you sort of get sick of the same old ones sometimes! 🙂
    Love you Kell. xoxo

That Draft Save button sounds like a life saver (or document saver!!! :)) in our house! With the three littlies, my husband and I rarely finish doing whatever it is we are doing (him – assignments, me – blogging/digital scrapbooking!) in one sitting. There is always an emergency by someone’s standards to be solved!

    Awesome give away, Kelly!

The smart art and text effects sound like they would really appeal to my creative side & help my business, website, promotional paraphernalia etc. Thanks Kel.

If you receive a copy of Microsoft Office 2010, what features would appeal to you most and why?

There are 2 features that my family would love – My husband is in the processes of doing our family history (very complex thing it is – My father is adopted so has natural parents and adoptive parents, but his adoptive father had another family and both his natural parents had other families) for our girls and would love to use Smart art… He would have a field day doing reports on relationships and changing the graphics for each relationship.

I would love the Publisher and text/font effects as we are a one income family and i make the girls party invitations, cards for family, photo collages for us and family myself on the computer to save money and would love an up to date program to do cute little things on.

Thanks heaps for this great giveaway and wonderful website.

Those are four great features! But it is Publisher that attracts me most. The words simple and flexible are music to my ears. I almost always illustrate my blog articles with a picture, and to be able to manipulate text and graphics easily would be a boon indeed.

For me, the outstanding feature is the draft save function.
I’ve worked from home for years and, regardless of no matter how often you save or have automatic saves scheduled, something will always go wrong when you need it the least. In my case it’s usually an extremely tight deadline, a problem with Word or Excel resulting in a lost file, accompanied by a child needing stitches, suffering from gastro or with a potential broken bone. With this new version, at least I’d know my work would be waiting for me when I eventually found the strength to return to the keyboard!

Being a relief teacher aide I can see the how it would benefit in my work too.
    Too many to say….
For a person who spends way too much time on the internet/puter this would be a great program to own and run!
