You know that feeling you get when you sitย a child on the kitchen bench to put a band-aid on a grazed knee?ย For me it’s a “I’m a Mum” moment.ย ย I have three at school this year and I have created a back pack first aid kit for each of them. It’s more of a care kit rather than a first aid kit and filling it is part of our back to school routine (I need to make one for myself!).
Possible items to include
- Food storage container
- Sunscreen
- Lip balm with sunscreen
- Lucas Papaw Ointment
- Band-aids
- Hand sanitiser
- Tissues
- Photo of mum/dad/pet/family
- Spare undies
- Stickers for decoration
My older kids (from Grade 2) love and use it, especially the sunscreen as they often have to reapply and use it for excursions and swimming, and the lip balm is often used in winter. For my younger kids (prep/year 1), I will include a picture, hankie and spare undies.
What else could we include in the first aid box?

October 15, 2010 at 7:58 amAny ideas on how we can pack a cuddle and a kiss in there? That’s the best first aid I know!

October 15, 2010 at 8:05 amI agree! You know what? I might just put a kiss on one of the stickers that can be collected any time. HA!

October 15, 2010 at 8:03 amKelly, that’s a really great idea! my suggestion as to what else could be included would be a travel pack of wipes (baby wipes) – doesn’t matter what the situation, or how old the child, those wipes sure do seem to come in handy time after time.

October 15, 2010 at 8:07 amYes! Wipes. I also wonder how I survived without wipes pre children. They are useful for so many things! Great idea!

October 15, 2010 at 2:16 pmMy lil man is a preppy and I really love this idea, as for the kiss from mummy, would a photo contacted to the inside of the lid with us blowing them a kiss be too much?
The only other thing i can think of is a zip lock bag to dispose of any rubbish you may end up with in case they are out on the oval or somehwre a bin isn;t as accessable ๐

January 11, 2012 at 10:36 amNot really a first aid kit item but when my daughter started prep I added a spare pair of undies. I know it’s odd but I think they get a little overwhelmed they’re first term or two and accidents happen.

January 11, 2012 at 10:38 amNot odd at all! That’s a great idea Monica! I’ll be adding that as well. Thank you!

January 11, 2012 at 12:21 pmwhen we were kids we had a small bear inside a matchbox. maybe something small like that so it still fits in container, a matchbox wrapped in paper and inside a note from mummy.
that way they can then put note in pocket and it can be changed around if needed.
