Love the Moment Challenge: January

The Be A Fun Mum Blog is all about reclaiming the joy of motherhood in a fast-paced world. It’s about loving the little moments which are like pieces of a puzzle, together creating a beautiful masterpiece.  This is encapsulated by the slogan, Love the Moment.  The below picture tells the story of one of these moments.

Love the Moment Heart

My 3 year-old son is heavy so I can’t carry him for long periods anymore but I do love to hold him when I can.  On the day this picture was taken, I lifted my son into my arms and walked across the road towards the shopping centre. As I lifted my leg to step up on the footpath, my son twisted to point at something.

“Look Mum! A love heart!”

And there it was: A heart shape on the road.  I could have so easily missed the moment of happiness. Thank you my son.

I want to capture more love-the-moment moments like this one so I’ve designed a challenge, and you can do it with me if you like.  It consists of daily activities as simple as “take 1 minute to look in your child’s eyes” to create awareness of things we sometimes take for granted. If you follow me on facebook, I will feature the day’s challenge with a few extra ideas also.

Click on the image to access a printer friendly version.

The thing is, I do many of the activities on the calendar in a given day, but the idea is to impress the moments on my mind so I don’t take them for granted.

Here’s to a New Year where the birds and the wind, the grass and the sky and a hug and a kiss don’t go unnoticed. Love the Moment.

Great minds Kel, this morning I just said to my daughter that we were going to start a project tomorrow of taking a pic a day together for 2011 and writing the moment that went with it! I just ADORE your idea and will be participating for sure…off to tell the Sunny Mummies about it too! Stace x

    love it !!!
we are going to be doing a “what we love” album this year 🙂 and going to fill it with photo’s and stories throughout the year -the aim is for something everyday ! I love the idea of a photo a day too my 4 yr old is so in love with taking photo’s of different things and people that i think we could really embrace this!!
next year is a year of thankfulness for us – everyday no matter what we will be thankful for something and will bring the good to the surface of our minds 🙂

Thank you so much for the inspiration! Will aim for everyday. Managed to fit in “love the moment” moments with each of my 3 kids, my husband and as a whole family yesterday. It wasn’t the exact challenge for the day, but I really tried to soak in the moment I was in with each family member, then the joy of having one all together as a family at the beach. I’m in the process of writing and refining my recollection of these special moments. Thank you for your inspiration to Be a Fun Mum, and to be the best mum I can be!

      Hi Alice

So beautiful. And you’ve captured exactly what the Love the Moment Challenge is about. It’s actually not about the actual challenges (they really can be anything) but more about taking the time to notice things we sometimes take for granted. I’m so glad you stopped by Alice.

Queensland Floods: One Family’s Story | Be A Fun Mum
    January 12, 2011 at 4:51 pm

[…] When I was trying to get back to my family, my phone was out of battery and I was afraid. I knew my husband woudbe worried for me and would be trying to ring to see if I was safe.  My phone had been out of battery for 4 hours.  I starred at the phone and I prayed: please God, just one phone call.  I pressed the power button it turned on.  I desperately willed my phone to hold for a few minutes– just somehow.  With shaking hands I typed in the phone number as quickly as I could and was devastated when I heard the engaged signal.  I prayed and tried again.  I was relieved to hear my sister’s panicked voice. I assured her I was okay and was comforted to hear my husband’s voice — for a moment — then the phone battery failed. After being stuck on the road for 3 hours, I found my family safe.  A family hug never felt so good. Love the Moment. […]

I know this is a pretty old post, but I’ve only just discovered your wonderful website, so am a few years behind, but am going to take the challenge!

It’s so true that we get caught up in the hub bub of life that we often miss those precious moments and I don’t want to look back when my daughters a grown up and think “if only”

    Thanks for the wonderful idea!!
