Have you heard about the Alphabet Soup Magazine? Alphabet Soup is an Australian magazine for children aged 6 to 12 who love books and creative writing. I recently discovered the magazine and I want to tell you about it. First things first: the paper is gorgeous! It’s thick and glossy which is ideal for children. The magazine has a by children, for children feel to it and this appealed to my daughter, right from the moment she saw the front cover. The pages are filled with children’s artwork and writing, puzzles, book reviews, stories, information for children and lots more. The fact I had to nick it off my daughter so I could write this says a lot about the publication.
So why is this magazine special? I asked my daughter.
“I like the drawings. And it has lots of activities, poems and stories. I just like it.”
The magazine inspires children to write creatively in many different ways. This was evident to me, and I was thrilled to see my daughter write a poem — something she hasn’t done at home before. And then, true to life at our place, the other three kids joined in for some poetry fun.
If your child loves to read and write, this is a magazine for them! It’s also a wonderful catalyst to encourage literacy in any child. What a great start to the school year!
