Creative Kids: Just Add Flowers

I opened my email this morning and read a post from Kate (Picklebums) titled Imaginative Play At Home.  In the post, Kate shows easy ways to set up open-ended imaginative play spaces for children.  I felt inspired as this reinforces many of my own values when it comes to children’s play.

Something as simple as fake flowers, can open up a world of imaginative play for children.

Just add flowers…

just add flowers

    Hi Kelly,

My kids are very much at the “want to be like mummy” stage (well, my daughter wants to be like mummy, and my son wants to copy his big sister). All they need is a broom and a dustpan/ brush and they will be occupied for at least 20 minutes (which is pretty good going for a 20 month and almost 3 year old I think!)

They also like playing with water spray bottles and rags, plastic bowls, cups and spoons, dirt (I’m not sure how I feel about this one!), play-dough with paddle-pop sticks or candles…

The TV remote controls frequently become telephones and I hear “hello…oh hi…yep, yep, yep, ok…bye”. I wonder if this reflects my telephone style?

    ooooh a florist shop!!!
It’s so easy to encourage imaginative play we just need to remember how to think with our imaginations!
What a fab list! I’m saving that and printing it off!
