Creative Kids: Lipstick Drawing

Drawing with KidsLook at the delight on her face! Miss Cossie here, couldn’t believe it when I said, “Do you want to draw with some lipstick?”

I’ve got a stash of old make-up I don’t use anymore: lipsticks, lip gloss and eyeshadow. I thought it would be fun for the kids to use the make-up as an art material.

Drawing is something my kids love to do, and I’ve learnt the value of mixing the materials up. Here are some examples:

Wood Picture:  Changing the base material from paper to wood gave a fresh approach to a simple activity.

Making Paper Dolls: Cutting out a drawn figure turned a drawing into a toy.

Drawing Out and About: Using a box clipboard allows us to take drawing around us, everywhere!

Maybe it’s time to do a make-up clean up…but don’t throw it out, let the kids use it for art.

Tip: If the lipstick is soft, place it in the fridge for a few minutes before using.

My daughter would ask me to pinch her if I said she could draw with my lipstick. Fun idea! I better start looking for cheaper lipstick!

That is a great idea Kelly! I can’t believe I threw out a heap of old lipstick the other day and didn’t think of that. All of my inquisitive children found them in the bin and my nearly 2 yo started his own artwork with them…but not in a constructive way…AND I STILL didn’t think of it! Duh!

I have been doing this with my little ones at home too..just keep an eye on these boys and girls baby clothes as lipstick stain can be a little harder to take out in the laundy..but they usually have the grandest time using my old make up collection in drawing.
