This Easter, our family is doing an Easter Advent Calendar to the lead up to Easter Sunday, similar to the one we did at Christmas.
The idea of the Easter Advent Calendar is to tell the story of Easter in a tangible way. It’s also a fun way to get kids involved in the lead-up to Easter. You can follow along with my template (below), follow this similar system or make up your own. This calendar can be done in conjunction with the April Love the Moment Challenge.
Easter is a special time for our family. While the story of Jesus’ death can seem very sad, it’s actually a story of hope, truth and freedom and I love sharing it with my children. I’ve based this Easter Advent Calendar around the Biblical account of Jesus’ death and resurrection. You’re welcome to join our family as we count down to Easter Sunday.

I have three Easter Advent Calendar options you can make. You can also purchase a Resurrection Eggs set (different system to my template) from Word Bookstore.
1. Arty Easter Advent Calendar: If you want to get the kids involved and don’t mind a bit of mess, you may like this option.
2. Crafty Easter Advent Calendar: If you like pretty things and doing craft, you may like this gorgeous hanging Easter Advent using a free template from Li’l Magoolie.
3. Plastic Egg Easter Advent Calendar: If you don’t have time (or are not inclined) to make anything, plastic egg shells are brilliant. They can be purchased from discount shops and shops like Kmart, Target and Big W.
4. Resurrection Eggs: You can purchase a set of Resurrection Eggs from Word Bookstore. My version differs from this one but I’ve used this one too in the past and it’s a great teaching tool.

April 4, 2011 at 8:00 amLooks great Kelly! We have a set of the resurrection eggs, but silly me packed them away in storage (we won’t be moving to our new place until after 6th May!) I didn’t think about the fact that Easter coincided with our time staying with mum and dad!
Will have to use your idea instead – now to go and get crafty!

April 12, 2011 at 4:32 pmWhat lovely ideas – thanks so much for sharing. I’m very excited to be using our Resurrection Eggs for the first time since Miss E is now nearly three. We’re using them with a book called ‘Benjamin’s Box’ by Melody Carson, which takes children through the Easter story from the perspective of a child living in Jerusalem. Each page corresponds to one of the eggs in the set. A few days in, and we’re loving it! Instead of eggs for Miss E this year, we’ve got VeggieTales ‘An Easter Carol’. We’re looking forward to forging some family Easter traditions so we can fully appreciate the season and its significance. I’ve saved your calendar to use when our girls are older. Thanks again!

March 20, 2015 at 10:10 amThese are a great idea except for the name you’ve given them. Advent is a specific period of time that leads up to Christmas. The period before Easter is called Lent.
