I love using assessories like necklaces, handbags, and even makeup, to change my look. The only problem is remembering to wear them! It’s a shame to have jewellery sitting in a box unused, because they should be worn and enjoyed. So, I changed the way I organise my accessories so they are uncluttered and where I can see them.
1. Necklaces
I keep my dresser in the wardrobe. This is purely because I can’t fit it in our small bedroom. It’s proven to be a very useful place to have drawers and bench space. I hang my necklaces on the wardrobe rail where I can see them, and keep my makeup on the dresser top. Having my necklaces stored this way has made a huge difference in how often I use them.
In the past, I used a necklace stand but found the sparse spacing meant the necklances got tangled and I couldn’t see them clearly. I found this (pictured below) wooden necklace stand online which seperates the necklaces nicely.
2. Makeup Organiser
I store makeup in a cosmetic organiser. I purchased mine (pictured below) from Priceline. I can easily see where everything is and this makes putting on a quick splash of makeup a breeze.
I found these makeup organisers online:
3. Earrings, brooches & dress rings
I spotted this gorgeous dress shelf (pictured left) in a little shop called Vintage Primrose and thought it would make a lovely jewellery organiser. Isn’t it happy? I keep the majority of necklaces away from my earrings so they don’t get lost. I also keep my dress rings and brooches on the shelves.
Favourites List
- Button necklaces from Kellie Christie
- MAC Bronzing Powder (refined golden)
- 3 strand pearl necklace: Kitten D’Amour
- Felt flower brooch: Goombundgee Art Gallery
- Jewellery passed down from my Mum
I enjoy wearing my jewellery! It brings a little bit of happiness into my day. And you know what? The children notice too.

May 6, 2011 at 8:55 amI keep my earrings in one of those fishing tackle/craft boxes with the little compartments inside. My makeup is in one of the ensuite drawers and rather old! But I love the dress shelf – that would make a nice wall feature festooned with necklaces etc.

May 8, 2011 at 8:34 pmI love the way you have used the wardrobe rail for your necklaces! Such a simple idea but so effective! I have my dresser in the wardrobe too because of space restrictions, and I’ve never thought of doing that. All my jewelery are in various containers on a shelf in the hallway, I make sure to grab something from them every day to wear before I rush out the door.

May 9, 2011 at 11:53 amFunnily enough, we put the boys drawers in their wardrobe as well – saves so much floor space in the room! I’ve yet to find some suitable drawers to fit in our wardrobe so I can do the same thing. I’m always on the look out though 😉
Hanging your necklaces up like you do, is a great idea! Mine tend to get ‘lost’ all bunched up together.
Must be time to make over my wardrobe again!

My Spring Wardrobe Plus $200 Big W Gift Voucher Giveaway
August 16, 2013 at 10:25 pm[…] Pulling everything out gives me a visual of my wardrobe and what combinations work. It’s amazing how much you can mix and match pieces and accessories when you invest a little concentrated time. Then, I organise it all in my wardrobe, by hanging tops together, then shorts/skirts, then dresses. I hang jewellery on a railing inside the wardrobe (as pictured in this post). […]
