Cars 2 Movie: Review and Giveaway

Sponsored by Nuffnang

Disney Pixar Cars 2 Movie ReviewThanks to Nuffnang, my girls and I enjoyed an outing to see the brand new Disney Pixar Cars 2 movie.  Here’s my review:

Join all your favourite characters from the original Disney Pixar Cars movie and meet many new ones in the adventure packed sequel.

There’s a lot to experience in the new Disney Pixar Cars 2 movie: Countries, cultures, languages, food, car mechanics, relationships, romance, car racing, adventure and more.

The tone

The movie starts with an exciting, mysterious, and beautifully animated action sequence that has you on the edge of your seat in the first minutes. This action packed opening sets the tone for the movie before returning to the familiar and friendly settling of Radiator Springs.

The story

The story follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson), Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) and his crew on an overseas trip of a lifetime! Lightning McQueen and his crew enter an international Grand Prix to test out a new organic fuel. The race is held on three different tracks. The cars visit technologically driven Japan, then to friendly Italy, and finishing off in historical England. The attention to detail in the animation of these cities was a delightful surprise.

While the story is about racing, there’s the undercurrent spy mystery that Mater “accidentally” gets caught up in. After Lightning McQueen and Mater have words over his embarrassing “Radiator Springs” behaviour, Mater leaves the racetrack for home…but he doesn’t make it. Instead, Mater meets spy superstar Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the lovely tech assistant turned field agent Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). These two story lines run consecutively right until the last moments when they collide to reveal a surprising ending.

Educational potential

The movie has enormous potential for educational purposes. The attention to detail in the different countries is superb and the animation is incredible. There is also a lot of detail placed on car engineering that ties in nicely with the story line. (I know my husband will be interested in the engineering side of things!)

The message

The message of the story is about true friendship, acceptance and staying true to who you are, no matter where you are.

Fun Kids Review

My two older girls particularly enjoyed the movie (aged 7 and 9).  My youngest daughter was delighted in the “pretty purple car that is a spy and flies” (aged 5).  Here is what they had to say right after the movie:

Last word

Disney Pixar Cars 2 is a family fun movie packed with educational experiences, adventures, all things cars and what it means to be a true friend. It’s a movie to be watched time and time again as there is so much to take in! I’ll leave you with just one question: Will Mater choose to become a full time spy? He has the perfect cover you know; he’s Mater. Cars 2 is in cinemas now!

The best car trip we had is where we did not plan the whole trip. We got the kids in the car and started driving and ended up at Old Bar after a four hour drive. Everything went very smoothly and we all enjoyed the experience. We are yet to recreate anything like that by car again.

Would definitely be a memory from my childhood when my Grandfather would tootle around on a Sunday afternoon and take my brothers and I out for ice creams by the beach. He had this rusty old Volkswagen beetle which would backfire every time he accelerated which would send us kids into hysterical laughter. We would rattle and clang our way around town for the afternoon and as the sun started to set he would deposit us back home to our parents. He’s certainly well missed by us all!

We took a driving holiday down to Dubbo, the snow, Canberra and through NSW visiting relatives in Bowral. Our little boy was just 3 and we stopped at all the lovely parks that country towns have we judged the towns on their Vanilla Slices from their friendly bakeries and the playgrounds. It was a lovely trip and it was funny how we all tunned into finding playgrounds with toilets and looking out for bakeries for our sweet treats. We decided on that trip that if you have a potty you can go anywhere because there was also a few stops in the middle of no where for Mr 3 who just had to go!!!! The Snow, the Zoo at Dubbo and NSW was good fun too.

My “best” car adventure was in PNG. We had been up at a village high on a mountain all day and we had to return home. The “highway” was compressed mud, fine in fine weather, DREADFUL in the wet. We could see the afternoon storm clouds brewing and we began to pray that it wouldn’t rain so that we could return home (rain means bog. bog means stuck).

As we left, heading down the mountain, it began to POUR. The road beneath our wheels began to slip and slide like a fish tail. There was no way we could return up the bogged up road to the village. We kept going. As we came down the mountain roads, we knew there was another road that went up and around the next hill. As we fishtailed it down the muddy road and turned the corner, thinking that our prayers were in vain, our wheels hit solid, compacted road!! The storm had dumped it’s contents on the village we had just come from but left the rest of the road dry.

You can only imagine our thanks to God!

Our best (?) or at least most adventurous car journey was pre-kids. My husband and I were travelling through South and West Africa. On one particular day we drove for about 4 hours with 5 passengers across the back seat, 4 in the front (including the driver) and wait for it-a billy goat on the back parcel shelf! This was all in a car the size of a Holden Barina. I don’t recall the specifics, but according to my husband I spent the whole trip threatening to “get him back later”!
