Thanks to Nuffnang, my girls and I enjoyed an outing to see the brand new Disney Pixar Cars 2 movie. Here’s my review:
Join all your favourite characters from the original Disney Pixar Cars movie and meet many new ones in the adventure packed sequel.
There’s a lot to experience in the new Disney Pixar Cars 2 movie: Countries, cultures, languages, food, car mechanics, relationships, romance, car racing, adventure and more.
The movie starts with an exciting, mysterious, and beautifully animated action sequence that has you on the edge of your seat in the first minutes. This action packed opening sets the tone for the movie before returning to the familiar and friendly settling of Radiator Springs.
The story follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson), Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) and his crew on an overseas trip of a lifetime! Lightning McQueen and his crew enter an international Grand Prix to test out a new organic fuel. The race is held on three different tracks. The cars visit technologically driven Japan, then to friendly Italy, and finishing off in historical England. The attention to detail in the animation of these cities was a delightful surprise.
While the story is about racing, there’s the undercurrent spy mystery that Mater “accidentally” gets caught up in. After Lightning McQueen and Mater have words over his embarrassing “Radiator Springs” behaviour, Mater leaves the racetrack for home…but he doesn’t make it. Instead, Mater meets spy superstar Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the lovely tech assistant turned field agent Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). These two story lines run consecutively right until the last moments when they collide to reveal a surprising ending.
The movie has enormous potential for educational purposes. The attention to detail in the different countries is superb and the animation is incredible. There is also a lot of detail placed on car engineering that ties in nicely with the story line. (I know my husband will be interested in the engineering side of things!)
The message of the story is about true friendship, acceptance and staying true to who you are, no matter where you are.
Fun Kids Review
My two older girls particularly enjoyed the movie (aged 7 and 9). My youngest daughter was delighted in the “pretty purple car that is a spy and flies” (aged 5). Here is what they had to say right after the movie:
Disney Pixar Cars 2 is a family fun movie packed with educational experiences, adventures, all things cars and what it means to be a true friend. It’s a movie to be watched time and time again as there is so much to take in! I’ll leave you with just one question: Will Mater choose to become a full time spy? He has the perfect cover you know; he’s Mater. Cars 2 is in cinemas now!
