Camping Trip
We went away for a short family camping trip. It was our first camping trip for just our family (when we weren’t part of a big group of other families). I was surprised, really surprised, that it was so easy and fun.
My little girl moved out; she had her own tent and was thrilled with the freedom (she was nervous but stubborn)! Her big brother slept with her so he didn’t feel left out.
For this short camping trip, I packed one small bag for each of the children, boards, bikes, the chess set and a couple of sketchbooks. It was heaven! It was just a week, and we are eager to do something similar for 6 months in Bali.
Organising for Bali
As our holiday to Bali creeps closer, people are claiming/asking for the animals, beds and various other things we wont be needing for awhile. It seems it will work out for everyone. I am sure we will be missed too. Pretty sure anyway.
More Highs and Lows
A little bit of luck (cross your fingers for us), I think the house is rented! We are just waiting on dates. On other not so good news: the passport pictures have been rejected, so am back to square one on that…
Book recommendations anyone?
Can you think of any books that are a must read; a great read or something we as a family might enjoy? Let me know as we are compiling a list of books to buy from the Book Depository.
A Special Moment
My daughter and I had a few quiet moments the other day (a rare and lovely thing). We painted the rose petals that had fallen from the bunch of flowers my husband bought me home one Tuesday (my least favourite day).
1. On a piece of watercolour paper, we painted the rose petals, using the ones that had dropped off the flower bunch as a guide.
2. Using a pencil, we put a little detail on them.
Only 5 –7 mintues in total to paint something so simple, yet so gorgeous.
Have you escaped for a week, a month, or a year before? Or even just escaped for a few moments like I did with my daughter? I would love to hear your stories.

October 31, 2011 at 5:05 amOlivia is an arty girl. I am so doing the rose petal thing with her. She plays netball on Monday nights – and comes home physically and mentally wrecked – and painting is her relase, her destress, her peace. To do that with petals? Oh my, she will be in heaven.

October 31, 2011 at 8:07 amWe escaped for a week in the school holidays. Like you, it was our first solo family camping trip. We LOVED it! We went to Stradbroke Island and camped right on the beach. We walked down and swam every morning.
My girls would love painting rose petals too!
Book recommendations
When you have more time, it’s fun to read aloud a chapter book to the kids. One chapter a night. Even my older kids, who are avid readers, still love being read to. Below are some that we are wanting to read to the kids:
– Narnia Series by C S Lewis
– Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan
– The Lord of the Rings by Tolkin
