How brilliant to be featured in the Kidspot Ford Territory Top 50 Bloggers! You can read about my approach to blogging, and how this gives me a point of difference, in my interview with Kidspot here: Kidspot Top 50 Bloggers 2012 — Be A Fun Mum. The grand prize for this blogger competition is a trip to the BlogHer-12 conference in New York (amazing!) and a Ford Territory for a year (again, amazing!). There are details at the end of this post about how you can vote for me, and by voting, you can win yourself $5000 (bonus!).
As part of this entry, I want to share with you my journey into blogging.
My Blog Journey
It’s like having little adventures between folding the washing. That’s what blogging is to me. I get up in the morning with a spring in my step, knowing I can create, speak, ponder and connect in this little spot on the web. This blog is a space where I found my voice, and in many ways, rediscovered myself amongst sleepless nights, unbrushed hair and sticky fingers. I can breathe here.
This blog was born in July 2009 when, after a very long time, I saw the sun again. There was a time when my voice was clouded by something heavy and dark; this thing called depression. The evolution of the Be A Fun Mum banners displays an eerily clear picture of where I was, and what I’ve become. You see, this blog changed my life.
The banners tell the story
I will always love my first banner. It’s complex and beautiful; intricate and dark. It’s me in the stages of rediscovering myself. The shadows are still there, but too: there is endless possibilities and bursts of hope.
My banner now is extreme in contrast. It’s light and bright; happy and clear. It reflects the fact that I’m more confident, clear headed and joyous.
I didn’t mean for the banners to speak so loudly of my journey. I didn’t mean for them to tell my story, but there it is: retrospect in pictures.
I’m an adventurer. I know that now.
I love creating. I know that now.
Connection is like sunshine. I know that now.
Moments are amazing. I know that now.
My blog has given me the opportunity to travel, it challenges me to try new things and opens paths into new places. All these things, yes, but what keeps me passionate is knowing someone is reading somewhere out there, and we are connecting, you and I. That connection, even if I don’t see it, I feel it, and it’s an incredible thing because it’s there.
This post is about my journey into blogging…but it isn’t really about blogging. It’s about being open to change and investing in life. Does the journey dictate moments or do the moments define the journey?
