I don’t use the peg basket anymore. I have a particular system for completing the washing and the little pegs I need are kept on the line. So we had this old wire peg basket lying around and I noticed the kids use it where we have invested in many cute little projects in the backyard tree.
During the school holidays, I thought it would be a nice little project to dress up the plain peg basket into a vine tree house for doll play in the tree where the kids often gather in the late afternoons. I found fake vine in my travels a couple of weeks ago and put it up in the cupboard for a quiet moment on the school holidays to put it together.
The quiet moment came this warm afternoon, as the sun danced through the trees, moving here and by the guiding song of the wind in the leaves. Miss 7 and I sat under together in delightful bliss.
What we used
Peg Basket
Fake vine (or the real thing!)
Fake flower (optional)
1. Wind the start of the vine around a corner. This could work with real leaves and vine collected too.
2. Circle the vine around the outside of the basket.
3. Thread single flowers around the outside of the basket, bending the wire to hold the vines in place.
4. Find a low branch or hedge to hang the basket on.
Add toys, make little beds or whatever! I just leave it to the kids from here and they add as the play evolves.
Be A Nature Girl
Perhaps she was influenced by the wind whispering; Miss 7 asked me if I could record a video. I was curious to see what she would say in this spontaneous delivery. She’s inspiring to me!

September 26, 2013 at 4:23 pmSuper sweet 🙂 My little’s would love a little treehouse for their dolls. If only I didn’t have a yucky plastic peg basket…..I wonder what else I could use….

We bought some of that fake vine for a Jack and the Bean Stalk costume a while back and have found it is useful for loads of things… now we have something else to do with it!
