I’m sharing the recipe for the M&M Cookies in a Jar the children and I made one year at Christmastime.
Cookies in a Jar
Materials
1 Litre jar
Cellophane or material
Ribbon
Jar Ingredients
2 cups plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
200 grams M & M’s
Instructions
1. Layer all ingredients into jar
2. Fasten lid tightly
3. Place cellophane or material over lid allowing a 3 cm radius
4. Fasten with a ribbon
5. Attach Cookies in a Jar gift card template (click the picture for a PDF file)
Add
3/4 cup soft butter
1 egg
1 tsp Vanilla
Bake
1. Preheat oven to 180°C
2. Mix together butter, egg and vanilla
3. Add contents of jar
4. Gently mix with a large spoon until
combined
5. Shape dough into balls
6. Place balls on a lined baking tray
7. Using the back of a spoon, press gently to flatten slightly
8. Bake for 10-15 minutes until edges are golden
9. Allow to cool
10. Enjoy!
Makes approx 12 cookies
Tip
– It’s a good idea to include a date when prepared
– Best to layer the flour first, then sugars, then M&M’s on the top (if you put flour at the top, it will seep down and you won’t see the M&M layer well)
– Use festive coloured M&M’s
– More info on how long M&M’s last you can find here
Ideas
- Gift for teachers, friends and grandparents
- Secret Santa
- Make the recipe yourself

November 29, 2013 at 9:56 amOh I love this!
I really wanted to do cookies in a jar as it is budget friendly and something my seven year old can prepare (teaching her anyone can buy a gift but making something much more personal and special) and the idea to have green and red m&ms makes it appropriate for Christmas. Thank you for the inspiration! Off to the shops…
