Handmade Tree Decorations: Bird Wreath

handmade Christmas Tree decorations - beafunmum.com

So happy with how these turned out!  The kids and I made bird wreath Christmas decorations for their teacher gifts this year.

Materials

Craft glue (or a glue gun)

Plastic curtain eyelet

Small birds (can be wood, plastic, ceramic, foam)

Wool

Twine or ribbon

Tips:

– The curtain eyelets can be found at places like Spotlight or curtain speciality stores and a pack of 6 costs about $5.  This is the type of decoration I expect will keep for a good many years.  Other possible variation materials: wire or even a cardboard circle.

– I found the birds featured at Australia Post. They are actually UMBRA bird wine glass markers.

– Instead of birds, a twist of holly also looks lovely and is easy to find.

– Best place to find little birds for craft is in the floral section at a craft shop

Instructions

1. Glue the bird on the inside of the eyelet circle.

2.  Use a little glue on the eyelet surface. Tie a knot in the wool and start winding around the eyelet.

3. Continue until the entire eyelet is covered. Tie it off and trim any excess wool.  It’s a good idea to use a little glue to reinforce the end section.

4. Add a piece of twine or ribbon and hang.
