I’m establishing a drawing half an hour outside at about 4:30 to 5:00pm on most afternoons when we are home during the school holidays; a most delightful time of day during summer: the sun’s bite is gone but it’s still light. Creating a dedicated space helps with these little routines sometimes so I put up a tinsel tent.
Materials
50 metres of tinsel (I used cheap stuff)
Tent pegs
The kids often play out in the backyard tree and so I looked for a brand that was relatively parallel to the ground. Then pinned the tinsel from the ground, up around the branch once, and then back down again to create a tent shape. I expect it will last a couple of weeks or so. If there are any breakages, I’ll simply tape the ends together with some strong masking tape.
When it come to this long holiday period, I look at our drawing materials, and restock if needed. My kids enjoy drawing their own designs — and I want to encourage that — so I purchased four A5 art journals for $3 each and a new packet of textas. And there you have it! A little routine for the next couple of weeks taking us up to Christmas.
