An ice-cream after the morning swim.
Late afternoon walks on the beach.
Climbing coastal trees with my cousins.
Playing skipping rope games my sisters outside the caravan annex.
Colouring in activity books.
Going out somewhere especial for dinner.
Spaghetti in plastic bowls.
These are some of the memories I have of our annual family holidays at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I grew up in your average middle class family, but my parents always made family holidays a priority. As I look back, I see how these dedicated family times played an integral part of my upbringing and to the relationship I have with my siblings and extended family. Now I am the parent, I seek to provide the same value for my children. I see it as gifting my kids with memories of an overwhelmingly happy childhood they can draw on for their entire life. Good times ahead.
