Autumn/Winter Fashion Essentials

Westfield’s Autumn/Winter styles have hit the stores for those keen to grab this season’s most coveted items. You can shop online (so you can shop whenever you like), which is great for mums, so you pick out your fashion obsessions whilst the kids are asleep!

I chatted to Rachel, blogger and mum from Redcliffe Style, about a list of fashion essentials for this season. Rachel’s style is effortless and achievable (check out her blog) and I asked her for easy guidelines anyone could adapt when shopping this season.

The Autumn/Winter pallet is gorgeously simple, my favourite trend this season is loungewear. I’d suggest building a base with grey, camel/beige, black, white and khaki. These are huge and as a bonus, they are classics that will never go out of style. It makes it easy to invest when you know you can wear them for years and achieve great cost-per-wear.

Below are a few items that you could consider adding to your wardrobe for the season, and that you will be able to wear year after year:

1. The soft trench, this is like the traditional trench coat, but so much more comfortable with lovely movement. You can throw this over any outfit and it will make you look amazing.

2. A great fitting pair of jeans. It’s worth investing the time into hunting down a pair that makes you feel amazing. It doesn’t matter if they are $20 or $200, they just have to make you feel fantastic.

3. A White shirt. There is a reason this is always on every list – every season and every year. It’s a classic that you can dress up or dress down. 

4. A chunky knit. When I say chunky, it’s almost a faux chunky, it gives the feeling of chunky but it’s not giving a chunky silhouette. You need to be able to wear it with your jeans and also be able to layer it with the soft trench.

5. A bag. They are smaller this season, which I love. This means we aren’t carrying 5 lipsticks, 12 toys and the kitchen sink. We are only carrying the necessities and looking after our shoulders, bag and posture.

6. If you are a print and colour lover, consider plaid this season. This is really popular and so much fun.

7. Accessories are more simple and delicate. Statement necklaces and bright, heavy arm parties are not as popular, now it’s more about simple pieces. Layer fine necklaces, rings or bracelets and have fun mixing metals.
