Trendy Autumn | Winter Looks

Brought to you by Westfield and Nuffnang

Dannii Minogue is the Westfield Autumn/Winter 2015 style ambassador and she’s the perfect fit for the position. She somehow manages to become more gorgeous and stylish each year!

Dannii is doing the rounds at Westfield Shopping Centers around the country, sharing her top looks and must-haves. BAFM fashion writer, Rachel interviewed Dannii about her Autumn/Winter tips for the fashion obsessed, busy mum.

The Interview

Interview - Dannii Minogue

What do you think are the most versatile pieces for a busy mum?

A necklace can solve so much. Like when you are doing the school run, you’re in tracksuit pants and a tee shirt and then throw on a necklace. I like anything metallic and sparkly. It’s about the rest of it being groomed and neat to help pull it together. Spend an extra 5 minutes on the hair; even a slick pony tail makes it work.

Being petite do you find it hard to layer?

Anything bulky is too hard to layer. I think with winter, you need to pick specific cuts, if you just keep layering up chunky things, it doesn’t work. I feel for me that if the top half is something big, then bottom half has to be skinny jeans or pull on leggings.

How do you feel about your fashion now that you are a mum?

It was when I turned 30 that I finally felt any kind of comfort in my own skin, who I was, who I wanted to be, what I wanted to dress like. So it took me a long, long time to get there. Now the challenge is not being in a fashion rut, and not just sticking with those certain things.

What are your top 3 tips for making an outfit look expensive?

Definitely fit is first for me because if it doesn’t fit me, it is never going to look right.

Accessories, I’m mad on accessories. For all those years I couldn’t find things to fit, I’d divert the eye with a fantastic shoe or earring and that’s always stuck with me.

The third one is finding something that suits you. I like a lot of different styles but finding the ones that will suit me will make the outfit look expensive rather than just wrong.

Trends & Easy Looks for Mums

After listening and taking notes, I headed out to my local Westfield at North Lakes and pulled together a variety of looks for busy mums using tips from Dannii and Sara.

Autumn Winter Looks for 2015

Normcore

This look is about embracing simple, clean pieces. For this look, keep hair groomed and slick, and add a pair of heels. This will avoid the about-to-hit-the-gym look.

Winter fashion ideas - Normcore

Top: Witchery Lurex Spliced Top $69.95 | Pants: Witchery Winter Drape pants $99.95 | Shoes: Wayne Cooper Sandal

Modern Glam

Have fun with power jackets, beautiful fabrics, textures and layers. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out Danni’s Modern Glam picks here.

Khaki

Khaki is huge this season. It’s such a versatile colour and great with heels or flats.

Back to the 70’s

The 70s are hot again. Channel Charlie’s Angels in flares or wide legged jeans and a poncho. This is such a comfortable and easy-to-wear look that can take you from school drop offs, to grocery shopping, meetings or curling up in front of the TV with a cuppa when the kids are in bed.

Poncho: Sussan Plum Check Serape $89.95 | Pants: Just Jeans 315 Stretch Wide Leg Ocean Jean $69.95 | Top: Just Jeans Chambray Lone Line shirt $59.95

Double Denim!

Try a double denim look. A darker jean and a chambray shirt always looks good. Throw on some great shades, with a cuff or bracelet and you’re good to go.

Statement necklaces

Dannii does love her statement pieces and it’s a great way to dress up or dress down an outfit. Plus, it’s easy to take on or off depending if you have toddlers around (who love to pull at anything — then there’s always teething necklaces as an option).

I’m in need of new clothes this season, so this is great for me Rachel! I’ve been eyeing off some Metalicus knits to take me though the NZ Winter. When it comes to what’s in, you’ve done all the homework already! I was interested to hear what Dannii said about finding her style after 30 because that rings true for me too. It’s just been in the last couple of years that I’m comfortable with my style: I know what I’m looking for and what pieces work for me and my life. I enjoy sprucing up my wardrobe each season with a few on trend pieces and coupling them with classic pieces.

I love Metalicus. Their knits would be great, layered for Winter. I took me even longer to find my style groove. I was definitely a late bloomer 🙂 Thanks for having me xx

I’m all about mixing and matching too, Kate. If I can’t wear pieces with lots of other pieces in my wardrobe, then they don’t get to come home with me.

Ponchos are such a great piece for Winter. The outfits are all comfortable, I can not wear anything uncomfortable, even for 5 minutes. It would drive me nuts!

Love this post Rachel! Can you help me to be a little more “modern glam”? Also, I think I need a few more statement necklaces in my life.

Thank you, Bernie. I’d be happy to help. If Danni says statement necklaces fix everything, then we all need more 🙂
