I love my crazy family. I love organisational tools. And I love stylish home interiors. It follows then that I just had to try the What Wall – the most stylish family organisational tool that I have ever stumbled across.
Life with three young children (and a husband who runs his own business) can be hectic at the best of times. To keep things organised, I have calendars, forms and notes pinned to our fridge which outline who is supposed to be where and when, and who needs to take what where.
Sounds confusing? It can be, and my old system also looked messy and can be easily knocked off when kids are opening and closing the fridge frequently.
The What Wall
Entrepreneurial mum of five, Tania Jeffrey, developed the What Wall – a stylish, streak and dust free chalk board with coloured liquid chalks – to help organise her busy family life. You can read more about it in my feature article about Tania and how it all started here.
Tania said it revolutionised family life as she knew it, so I decided to road test it on my own family to see if it could help our days run more smoothly and efficiently.
I trialled the What Wall for four weeks – here’s what I found:
It looks great
I LOVE how it looks in our living space – I chose the mount that raises it from the wall – and it fits in seamlessly with our décor. Many visitors comment on it, and asked where they can purchase one from.
It’s easy to use
It is really easy to use – the liquid chalks are bright and colourful.
- I assign one colour to each child
- Family events are in orange
- Extra notes are in white
- It is also easy to wipe clean – I use a damp Norwex (microfibre) cloth to rub out the markers
It works
My kids actually check it and there’s enough space to put everything on there – including reminders to pack their library book/swimming bag/homework etc. I also put our regular activities on the What Wall first – these stay on permanently and then I add other items as they change each week.
It adds value to family life
I also put extra notes on the What Wall such as what we’re having for dinner. The kids love checking this and it saves a lot of questions! On weekends, I write our fun family activities on it after the kids have gone to bed. In the morning they can’t wait to get up and check the What Wall to see what special activities we have planned for the day.
It includes kids
My kids use the notes section to communicate with my husband and I. For example, my daughter was going on a sleepover and left a reminder for me to feed her guinea pigs while she was away.
The What Wall is here to stay in our family.

June 11, 2015 at 6:44 pmThis is similar to the colour coded system I use, except it’s so lovely and fancy and clean! Once we move back to Oz, it will be on the list for the new house.

September 12, 2019 at 11:12 amThis review is from 2015 and I don’t think the company make them anymore, unfortunately. However, if you google “Black Whiteboards” you will find similar options. Are you in Australia?
