Special Occasion Make Up (and taking it off)

I’m doing a series of review posts featuring Garnier products I use regularly. In a previous post (link), I shared 3 super quick routine looks (1-minute; 2-minute; 5-mintute) I have up my sleeve, depending on how much time I have of a morning.

If I have a little more time to spend on my make-up (and I feel so inclined), I have a 10/15-mintue make up routine for special occasions.

Process/Products

1. Garnier BB cream as a moisturiser/base
2. Foundation
3. Concealer under eyes
4. Translucent powder
5. Slight contouring
6. Blush
7. Eye brown pencil and brush
8. Liquid eyeliner on the top of the eye lid
9. Pencil underneath eye lid and blend with square brush
10. Light eye shadow on eyelid and dark in the outer third and along crease.
11. Mascara
12. Lip liner and lipstick

I don’t wear make-up every day, and I don’t wear it because I feel pressured to either. I wear make-up because I enjoy it, and it adds to a look I’m going for. That is why I have staple routines so I can enjoy different looks quickly, without having to think about it.

At the end of a busy day, when it’s time to take make-up off (especially eye make-up) it can be a bit of a nightmare, especially when I do my make up for special occasions. There’s a new innovative Garnier product out on the market I’ve been trialling for the past couple of months. It’s been flying off the shelves in Australia and I can see why. It’s called Micellar Cleaning Water and it has a three-in-one action: it removes make-up, cleanses and smooths the skin, with no rinsing required.

What I especially like about the cleaning water is I can use it on my face, eyes, neck and lips, so I don’t need a separate product for my eye make-up. I also use it as a toner after cleansing in the shower, or even as a quick cleanser on its own.

It comes in a big 400ml bottle. I’ve had my bottle for about 2 months now, and I’m half way through to give you an indication on how far it goes.

Make-up remover/cleansing: I find it best to use make-up pads (rather than cotton wool balls) to remove make-up. I apply the Micellar Cleansing Water to the pad, and gently run it over my face. Continue (replacing the pad when needed) until the residue is gone.

As a toner: If I’m using this as a toner after a shower, I use a make-up pad and run it over my face before I apply moisturiser.

Removed make-up from half my face here, and liquid eyeliner comes off which is the ultimate test for me.

I’m not a make-up pro, but I like playing around with different looks and learning new skills. However, the main thing for me is to have staple products and looks to fall back on, so it’s easy to smash out different routines amongst the busyness of family life.
