Travel First Aid Kit Essentials

When we travel, I like to make up my own mini travel first aid kit because I find there are a lot of things I don’t use in the standard kits you can buy. We are going away camping on a long weekend, and we don’t need an extensive first aid kit because it’s not a long trip, and we have access to shops.  Below are the key things I like to have and what potential ailments they can be used for.

Camping First Aid Kit

This all fits inside a lunch box so it’s easy to stash in a car or suitcase.

Tips

  • Buy pain medication in bottles
  • Use zip lock bags to keep bandaids in to keep them dry
  • Tea tree oil is fabulous for travel, and the Thursday Plantation brand does it in a small 10ml bottle that’s perfect for camping (it comes in bigger bottles too)

Uses

Grazes

  • Tea tree oil for cleaning
  • Cotton pad
  • Bandaid

Insect Bites and stings

  • Tea tree oil for soothing
  • Antihistamine (if necessary)

Spilinters & Prickles

  • Tea tree oil
  • tweezers

Wind Burn on Face

  • Lip Balm

Burns

  • Tea tree oil
  • Aloe Vera gel

Snake bite

  • Bandage and GET TO A DOCTOR

Headaches and general pain

  • Paracetamol
  • Ibuprofen
  • Anti-inflammatory gel

Tip: For travel I find it best to get the tablets in bottles (with a child proof lid)

Hygiene

  • Hand sanitiser
  • Gloves

Travel sickness

  • Sick bag

Post swim

  • If we swim a lot, I find having aqua ear helpful.
  • Aloe Vera for potential burns (but hopefully not because I always take sunscreen!)

This are the items I use most for common ailments that can happen when we travel. Do you have any products you find useful for first aid when you travel?

Note: I obviously would recommend seeing a doctor or pharmacist with any concerns and advice on what you should use (I’m not recommending anything here, just sharing what I use).
