No one wants to slave over a hot stove in summer, and so we asked you, the Be a Fun Mum community, for your easy family meal ideas to get through the hottest days. There’s plenty of inspiration here, but if all else fails, there’s always takeaway!
Fritters and slices
These fritters and slices are quick to throw together and don’t take long to cook – either by pan frying or oven baking:
Finger food
Save on washing up and serve dinner without cutlery:
- Antipasto platters – breads, cheeses, meats, pickled vegetables etc.
- Lettuce cups filled with meat and vegetables
- Platter of fruit, vegetables, dips
- Rice paper rolls
- Sushi
- Sliders
Breakfast for dinner
You will be popular when you turn dinner on its head and serve breakfast in the evening every now and agin!
- Boiled eggs with toast fingers
- Bacon and eggs with a side of baked beans
- Omelettes
- Savoury crepes
- Cereal
- Fruit Salad, Muesli & Yoghurt
Build your own dinner
Kids love being able to contribute to dinner, and these meals allow your child to choose their own toppings or fillings:
- Burgers or hot dogs
- Sandwich
- Make your own pizza night
- Wraps with meat, salad and vegetables
- Baked potatoes with various toppings
- Spaghetti threaded sausages
- Mexican chicken burrito wraps
- Nachos
- Tacos
Cooked dinner
If you really feel like a cooked dinner, try using the BBQ in the cooler outdoors, or fire up the slow cooker (it won’t heat your house like the oven will):
- BBQ meat, fish, kebabs, sausages with corn cobs and salad
- Slow cooker meals such as slow cooker chicken korma with flat bread
- Stir fry with noodles
- Slow cooker pulled meat on buns
- Fish & Chips with salad
Salads
- A salad, matched with some protein such as a boiled egg, ham or BBQ chicken, makes a satisfying summer meal:
- Potato salad
- Coleslaw
- Garden salad
- Pasta salad

Desserts
After dinner, keep things cool with these summer dessert ideas:

Ive not got small children but I do have adult children that still live at home and love a couple of your easy recipes. I hate cooking. I am sure at Christmas you had some cook books. I can’t seem to find them now?
