I’ve been working with Clarity™ ADVANCED Ceramic Braces as we blog our way through the progress. You can find the other posts here. I can’t believe it’s been a year already!
Below is the starting point, where one tooth was pushed right back in the mouth, and an overlap of the front and bottom teeth.
A year later, below is where my daughter’s teeth are now. It’s been fantastic to have the option of colour or tooth coloured bands than blend in, and the process has been surprisingly quick and easy.
In review, the treatment so far has looked like this:
- First appointment: Chat to the orthodontist and formulate a plan. This included taking images and X-rays of the teeth.
- Second appointment: The braces go on! The brackets took about 10 minutes to apply; it’s quick because this type of bracket can be applied with a special glue which is easy to apply and remove, yet super strong. Then the bands went on.
- Other regular appointments: Since then, we have been going back every 4-8 weeks, depending on the treatment required. At each appointment my daughter’s teeth are checked to make sure they are clean and then new bands are put on and if required, the wire adjusted. Each appointment takes about 20 minutes (up to half an hour).

My daughter reflected on her year with braces, and she had this to say:
My year with braces, regardless of what some say, was far from embarrassing or humiliating. My family, my friends and I were excited to see the change in my wonky teeth. I was able to enjoy a wide variety of colours and during the year and also keep it tooth coloured when I wanted or needed. Seeing the change was quite shocking. My one tooth, that was sitting back behind my teeth, give or take a couple months, was completely pushed forward and normal looking. School posed no problem at all, in fact all my friends were really enthusiastic about my braces, begging me to try rainbow, and I finally did it.

From the time I had my braces put on to the time they will be taken off, I have actually enjoyed wearing them. I’m not going to lie, it does hurt a little when you get a thicker wire put in, but only a little bit, I promise. My teeth are almost correctly in line and overall, it’s been a positive experience. Seeing the change in my teeth is amazing. Smile on.
