If you were a child of the 80s or 90s, you’d remember the popular, sculptured dolls called Cabbage Patch Kids. Nearly every kid had one, unless your parents opted to buy the cheaper version. I had a similar doll which I called Judy. She came with me when I was six to get my tonsils out. To this day she still has the hospital band the nurse placed around Judy’s arm when I had my operation.
The dolls became a popular toy because of the unique adoption process which made it personal and special. Each doll came with their own unique name and birth certificate. Names could be officially changed but it was a process and this added to their charm. With a soft body to cuddle, sweet clothes to accessorise, adorable facial features and the iconic signature on the butt, the Cabbage Patch Kid dolls hit the spot for retro kids.
See the signature of Xavier Robert on the bottom? I was reading on My CP Collection about identifying the date from the signature, and it looks like this one was from 1985.

Brooke was hoping someone might be able to help her with finding out more about her brother’s doll from the signature. Any feedback? Just leave it in the comments. The only thing I was curious about is the signature does not seem to be the traditional one from Xavier Robert (like the doll pictured above). However, it does seem to be one of the earlier signatures used by Xavier.
When we asked the BAFM community what your cabbage patch doll was called, we were blown away with the names. Some of them are hilarious. Others are a bit strange. Any wonder some of you requested a name change!
Jodie shared her doll called Dwight Matthew, who she played with when she was a child, and then her son after her. Oh, mine had one of those dummies too!

Her name is Henrietta Scarlett, and she was my Christmas present back in 1983,so I’d have been 7 years old, and I adored her. She has the green signature, and has mousy brown curls in her yarn hair, with two plaits tied with white ribbons. She wears white plastic shoes, and wears a pretty pink-checked smock and undergarments.
We sent her birth certificate off, to exchange of a mountable coloured certificate.

To my horror she was kidnapped (by another little girl) while we were playing at the park. 2 years later while at the same park, I noticed a little girl with my baby. I knew she was mine because on her other butt cheeks I had signed my name . It was a true fight for custody with mom’s (me and the other little girl) crying and grandparents yelling. In the end, me and my baby Sabrina Rose were reunited. I vowed to never let her out of my sight again and true to my word, baby Sabrina is still doing very well in my care. That was 35 years ago.

When my daughter was around 3 she and I had gone to our local Walmart to pick up an Rx and while we were waiting we were strolling through the toy aisles just looking and a CP boy doll caught my attention because his name was Carter Boone and my son’s name is Boone Carter. Needless to say I bought the doll and still have it and it’s never been out of the box!
