Christmas is a while away, I know, but if you’re looking for a stocking filler, these Mad Bots Cybugs are fun. Mad Bots are made by Headstart are available from BIG W. For more information, check out the Mad Bots YouTube channel here. I was sent a few of these realistic sounding bugs to review.
The concept
BEWARE! A TOP SECRET Robot factory making Cybug Droids has malfunctioned. There is a glitch in each robot—these Mad Bots are breaking out of their crates and wrecking havoc!
In the box
- A mystery cybug
- Break out crate
- Instruction manual
- Batteries included
How they work
Place the bug in the crate, and then press the button at the top. Each Mad Bot will break out of the crate on a randomised timer so you never know when they will jump out. They make realistic sounds and movements which my son loved.
Product Features
- 12 to collect
- Realistic sounds and movement
- One mystery bug inside
- Includes speeder with pilot, Shiro!
- Batteries included
- Suitable for ages 4 and up
Below are four varieties we have. They have that cool robot-bug look.
The aqua bug glows in the dark.
Ideas for Play
Prank family members, add them to imaginative play or battle the bots. Over these holidays, the kids and I made an arena using boxes. They work well on carpet, hard floors and cardboard.
See how the Mad Bots move and sound in this 30 second video the kids and I made. The sounds and movements really are fantastic.
Considerations
Although the bugs are not small, there are certain parts (like the scorpion tail on the white bug) that easily comes loose (and can be clicked back on), so they are not suitable for young children. In this way, I would not say the bugs are extremely sturdy.
Last Word
The Mad Bots Cybugs, with their highly realistic movements and sounds, are a fun toy for robot/bug lovers. In my opinion, the niche age group for this toys would be the 6 to 9 age group.
