My second daughter turned 18 recently. I wanted to get a cake to mark the occasion, and had seen these lovely number cakes various places online. I asked one of her local bakeries, Sweet Hands, if they could make me one. And look how beautiful it turned out!

It’s made from vanilla sponge, with a cream filling with just the right balance of sweetness. I love how they used different types of piping.

The top is decorated with pink macarons, strawberries and what I think are fresh chrysanthemums or dahlias. So, so pretty! I don’t have the skills to do this kind of work, but the concept is quite simple, and the cake still has that wow factor.
